Screw this travel blog, I'm going to report on Molly while I'm here then hopefully sell the screenplay to Hollywood when i get back.
Molly never fails to surprise me. Since my last blog here are a few of the highlights: poor Joe comes in for a fair bit of stick...
1. tells Joe he's too short to play football
2. tells Joe he's too skinny for those pants
3. tells Joe that she prefers to be swung by uncle Phil cos 'Uncle Phil's kinda stronger than you'
4. Def Leppard came on the radio last night whilst cleaning up after dinner, i was quite happily singing along until Molly turned to me and said in the most sarcastic tone ever 'hey Mat, remember when you were in that baaand?'
5. threw a football in my face from about 2 feet away
6. whacked Joe in the balls with her flip flop
7. has taken to concealing pins and needles about her person like some kind of pre-school ninja, so if you chase her and grab her...well lets just say my new hoody is ruined!
8. interrupted me reading a bedtime story to her to give an abridged version of Harry Potter, all of them in no particular order ending with '...you look a bit like Harry Potter Mat'
9. at dinner she ate half a lemon without flinching and drank vinegar straight from the bottle.
10. this morning said to me 'you're not wearing that today are you?'
Other than that we drove out to Bodega Bay (where they filmed 'The Birds') yesterday evening evening which was nice. Payed $20 for fish and chips just cos Tippi Hedren eats there twice a year.
Today we watched more basket ball so I'm getting my sports fill at least. It was the much anticipated grudge match between St Johns Junior High and St Sebastian. Molly was point guard, steering her team to their first win of the season and ice cream at Powell's afterwards. We arrived with Lily instead of Selena this time. Lily managed to last the entire game before deserting us, the final whistle blew, i blinked and she was gone! Off to her boyfriend Luke's house for more gross displays of affection- Jesus wept!
Oh yeah, today saw the return of the irrepressible Giles (campest 12 year old in the world). He came round and made everyone Mac n Cheese bless him!
...its Sunday evening now. Have been for a walk in the foothills today, the foothills to what I'm not sure cos there are no larger 'mountains' anywhere in sight. I used my pen knife to cut and whittle a branch- felt manly, pictures to follow... Afterwards we went to Giles's house to watch the Steeler's V's Jets game. Giles didn't watch, he had a tea party in the garden with Lily. We watched the game with his Dad, Brother and Brothers friends. OMG American Football is boring as hell, cant wait for the Superball! think I'd have rather had a tea party.
over and out!

first post- something notworthy...
Earlier on i'd introduced Joe to Carls Junior (fast food joint of choice) after picking Molly up from School. Molly introduced Joe to an inflated opinion of herself by treating him to a two hour game of 'anything you can do i can do better' including burger eating, soda drinking, pavement walking etc. you get the picture. I've never thought arrogant would be an apt description for an 8 year old but molly's hubris gives Odysseus a run for his money. You get the impression that if she ever did attempt to catch a cougar you'd second guess yourself as to who would win.
...just had lunch which involved going to the store to buy distinctly American produce! Selena recommended a new soft drink called 'Arizona' you may have seen Cameron Diaz sipping it on the red carpet- its actually pretty nice. we also bought Twinkies mmmm Twinkies! apparently if there was a nuclear bomb only cockroaches and Twinkies would survive!
I thought by getting drunk almost every night for a few weeks prior to coming away i'd be looking forward to drying out in a beautiful part of the world with family. However Windsor is tiny, about 4 people live here and i've never wanted a drink so much in my life. To rub salt in the wound the present i bought Molly for Christmas 'Monkey Dave' (a animatronic talking monkey...farts and burps) has back fired leading me to hide all the batteries in the house!
So, off to a slow start but plenty of time to plan the rest of the trip. have been looking at hostels in San Francisco, thinking of going down next week for a few days, finally get round to doing Alcatraz- something unsettling about a scouser willingly nay paying to go to prison. I have aslo been researching getting around New Zealand etc. Hoping we will get to go skiing whilst we are here too but will have to wait and see.
i'll end here before Molly comes home and tries to show me how to write a blog properly.
Dougal being a bit dramatic about his sprained paw |
Arrived safely in the US and A ya'll! got here on the 17.01 today is 20.01. Had to wait a couple of days to start this blog what with me creaking my neck and Dougal with his sprained paw, Molly sleeping over at a friends house, Jen working two jobs and Lily, Selena and Joe's combined apathy its taken this long to do something noteworthy!
However last night we went to a varsity basketball game which was good! Windsor High Vs (snigger) Analy High! we left with a minute still on the clock (30mins real time) to beat the rush like proper English men; the visitors were ahead by 3 points or hoops or goals or whatever and looked like they were going to ride out
the game as winners. They had a cracking O-fensive player, it was almost sad to imagine he has no future in the sport as at 17 he was still only about 5'6" but this guy was getting 3 pointers left right and center! Reminded me of a young James Crowe. Selena left, no deserted us about 10 minutes into the game to go home and watch American Idol!
